Building 101: Hardware

Another week means another Building 101! This week we discussed hardware for doors and cabinets, which can really change the look of a house.

When you're building a house, you have to make so many decisions at once. Sometimes they can feel overwhelming. Don't let hardware be one of those things.

In the style of our home, I prefer minimalism, keeping the house bright and airy. I knew when we picked cabinet hardware that I wanted them to accent the cabinets, not take away from them. For this reason I kept things simple (after overthinking what to do in the bathroom for weeks). In the kitchen, I did knobs on all the doors and pulls on all the drawers. I did the same knobs for the kitchen and the bathroom and all of the bathroom drawers have the same pulls. I chose different pulls for our kitchen but painted pulls for drawers and knobs for doors throughout the whole house. I love the variety it gives and it doesn't feel heavy.

Here's what we chose:

For the doorknobs, we kept things simple here too. We didn't do a backplate to save money, though I think they look nice. We went with an aged bronze knob on all interior doors. We added a lever on our back door, thinking it would be more convenient for going in and outside once the patio is complete.

For our front door, we wanted to add a handset since we went with more a visually appealing front door. We got this in aged bronze too and I think it looks so nice to everyone entering.

Here's what we chose for doorknobs:

See you next week for another Building 101!
