Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and if you’re like me, you’re probably scrolling through Pinterest looking for the perfect gift for your mom, grandma, or a special mother figure in your life. Spoiler alert: something handmade and from the heart always wins!

Last year, I created these DIY fingerprint flower pots with our son and gifted them to my mom and mother-in-law and they were a hit! Not only are they easy and fun for kids, but they’re also meaningful keepsakes that moms will treasure!

What you'll need:

  • Plain flower pots (terra cotta or ceramic, I found mine at a local garden store)

  • Acrylic Paint

  • Permanent Marker (both regular and fine tip)

  • Modge Podge

  • Optional: Flower to put in the pot at the end!

Now let's make it:

  1. Pour a small amount of acrylic paint onto a surface that can be easily pressed into with little fingers, like a paper plate. Color optional, I used yellow to make bees and red to make ladybugs (we'll add more detail to the design later).

  2. Gather the kids and have them stick the pad of their thrumbs into the paint, and then press several times around the flower pot. Set aside to dry.

  3. Once dry, it's time to add our design. If making ladybugs, use your regular permanent marker to create a semi-circle on the top of the red thumprint and add some dots below. If making bees, use a regular permanent marker to draw a few hearts to resemble wings on the tops of the yellow thumbprint, some stripes and a stinger.

  4. Then use your fine tip permanent marker to add finishing touches, like a smiley face and dashed lines behind your bee, or a line down the middle of the back of your ladybug.

  5. Finish with a coat of Modge Podge to seal it. You could also add a flower into the pot before you gift it!
